Hi Gamers !

VDrift, a new racing game is now available on Frugalware !

VDrift is a cross-platform, open source driving simulation made with drift racing in mind. The driving physics engine was recently re-written from scratch but was inspired and owes much to the Vamos physics engine. It is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL) v2.

To install it:

repoman upd;repoman merge vdrift

Fire in the hole!

I’ve just packaged a new game for Frugalware Linux’s users:

AssaultCube is a total conversion of Wouter van Oortmerssen’s FPS called Cube. Set in a realistic looking environment, as far as that’s possible with this engine, while gameplay stays fast and arcade. This game is all about team oriented multiplayer fun.

assaultcube

Two teams are fighting, special forces and terrorists, maybe this will remember you the game Counterstrike, AssautCube is opensource, but some « packages » are under licenses copyright, for this reason the package is available via repoman:

repoman upd;repoman merge assaultcube

Good frag !

Wiki still alive ?
0 vote
By Devil505, on 13/11/2009 at 16:53.

Since few months, the official wiki of Frugalware is down, see http://wiki.frugalware.org/.

Bouleetbil has recently create a new wiki with Mediawiki: http://dors.frugalware.org/mediawiki/index.php/Main_Page

wiki

Normally this wiki is supposed to be the new official wiki of Frugalware.

The wiki is different from the official documentation, the wiki is specially dedicated for frugalware’s users to share tutorials or tips for example.

I’ve already transfered all english pages from the old wiki. The idea is to have a wiki more complete than the old one. Some templates have been added. I encourage all frugalware users to contribute to this wiki, thanks. Hungarian users will find a link to the hungarian wiki parton left side. If you want this wiki available for a specific foreign language, ping me on #frugalware.

Locris Wallpaper: first attempt
0 vote
By Devil505, on 25/10/2009 at 10:48.

Here is a wallpaper from WebEagle, a new artist of Frugalware Artwork team:

wall-locris1

You can find here this wallpaper in a better resolution. Why a planet ? for Asimov’s planet relation of course. Why a Greek Temple ? Because Locris is also the name of an ancient Greece’s region. Maybe this wallpaper would be the default one for Frugalware 1.2 Locris.

What do you think about this wallpaper ? Suggestions ? Leave me a comment please :-)

Let’s make things « artistic » !

By Devil505, on 18/10/2009 at 20:24.

Few months ago I asked to the owner of Opendesktop.org (also gnome-look, kde-look….) to create a website for all Frugalware artwork stuff (as he did with Ubuntu-art or Debian-art for example).

I just want to remind to all Frugalware users to not hesitate to use Frugalware-art. On Frugalware-art, you’ll find wallpapers, window themes for Gnome and KDE…, but the website also need contributors. Dear gimp fans, you can host your wonderfull wallpapers on frugalware-art (I did it for my sexy frugalware wallpapers because I know vmiklos will never accept these wallpapers for the official artwork, I think, he’s right :D ). There is also a screenshots section, interesting to host and share your desktop screenshots with others.

Now, don’t forget this url: Frugalware-art.org.

Frugalware and Microblog

By Devil505, on 17/10/2009 at 09:16.

I think you should know what is « Microbloging », we all hear about Twitter on TV for example. An opensource alternative to Twitter exists ! It’s Identi.ca, based on the opensource microblog plateform named Laconi.ca.

I encourage you to register to identi.ca and to test it. One of the interesting features is the one you can « link » your jabber account to your identi.ca, then you’ll be able to receive and post your messages directly from your IM client (pidgin, gajim, kopete…).

Don’t forget to join the Frugalware group, the FW users group on identica.

identica-fw-group

Some clients for « tweeting » with identi.ca are available in Frugalware current repo. One of them is Froggymicroblog developped in Mono by Bouleetbil.

I recently packaged Gwibber based on bzr daily build version (IMHO more stable than the official stable version). Gwibber is microblog client working with Identi.ca and Twitter but also Facebook and Friendfeed.

Gwibber

Gwibber

Frugalware Devel team accounts:

Bouleetbil
Phayz
Devil505
Cedynamix
Jercel
Frugalware Updates

Of course you’ll find some Frugalware users account, specially in Frugalware group.

I hope Vmiklos and others we’ll have their own accounts sooner :-P

EDIT: My mistake, vmiklos has an identi.ca account now :p
